Devon Englehart
Annville-Cleona’s Devon “Devo” Englehart was everywhere in the Dutchmen’s Week 1 win over Biglerville on August 22nd. The junior linebacker and running back filled up the stat sheet with 12 tackles (8 solo), 2 sacks, and 2 tackles for loss. On offense, he served as the team’s leading running back, rushing for 42 yards on 13 carries. That’s not all—Englehart also handled his long snapping duties with perfection. His all-around performance helped fuel an 18-9 victory, something our readers recognized in selecting him as the first LebCo Athlete of the Week for the Fall 2025 season.
This is an excellent start to the 2025 season, as Englehart has set high expectations for himself, hoping to make an impact in every phase of the game. On defense, he has his eyes on finishing with more than 75 tackles, while on offense he dreams of topping 1,000 rushing yards. That versatility has made him a cornerstone of Annville-Cleona’s game plans.
“I go into any position or do any job on the field that needs done,” Englehart said. “I follow every game plan each week to help the team find success.”
Getting to this point has not come without challenges. Englehart admitted that hesitation used to slow him down at linebacker, leaving him vulnerable against blockers. Last summer, he sharpened his footwork and worked on techniques to stay aggressive. “This season I’ve been using a lot of dip and ripping to get around blockers,” he explained. “It’s been a great push in my success at linebacker.”
Head Coach Matt Gingrich praised Englehart’s development and leadership. “Devo is everything we’re hoping for in an athlete,” Gingrich said. “He works hard, maximizes his ability, and does whatever the team needs every single day.”
The veteran head coach continued: “He’s become a really good linebacker, getting to the ball faster than anyone else and really delivering a blow when he gets there. He’s a great running back, and he’s doing a great job on both sides of the ball. We really appreciate his leadership and, like I said, he’s been a tremendous asset for us in football.”

That leadership was on display again in Week 2, when Englehart led the Dutchmen in rushing with 64 yards and added six tackles in the team’s 10-7 road win over Hanover. With the victory, Annville-Cleona improved to 2-0 and continued to build momentum heading into the heart of the season.
Englehart’s impact isn’t limited to the football field. He also competes in wrestling and baseball while staying active in his church youth group. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with friends. A fun fact about him is that he’s a cat lover with four cats at home. Looking to the future, Englehart hopes to play football at the collegiate level before pursuing a career in the electrical trades.
Through it all, he remains grateful for the people who have helped him along the way. “I’d like to thank Coach Gingrich, my parents, and all of my teammates over the years,” Englehart said. “Each and every one of them has made me a better player and a better person.”
With his energy, toughness, and team-first mindset, Englehart has quickly become a driving force behind Annville-Cleona’s early-season success. We congratulate him on being named Athlete of the Week and wish him and his teammates the best of luck this season as the young Dutchmen continue to develop and look to add more wins to the column.
