Girls Basketball: New Covenant v Linville Hill (2-22-24)

District 3 Playoffs

Linville Hill 51, New Covenant 37

On February 12, New Covenant lost to Linville Hill, 54-21, in the CCAC Playoffs. On Friday night, the two teams again met, this time in the District 3 – 1A quarterfinal. The Linville Hill Warriors finished the regular season with an 18-1 record, giving them the top seed and home-court advantage.

In 1st quarter in Paradise, Linville Hill raced out to an 18-8 lead. While Qynne Demler scored 5 points to open the game for the Flames, the 2nd quarter brought intense pressure that limited New Covenant’s offense. By halftime, the Warriors held an imposing 37-10 lead.

Down, but not out, New Covenant made halftime adjustments. In the 3rd quarter, they came to life as Demler hit two three-pointers on her way to 8 points in the frame. Fellow freshman Moriah Simniskis also scored 4 points as the Flames outscored Linville Hill 14-7 in the quarter. The 4th quarter was similar, as Demler pitched in 7 more points and junior Miracle Hershey scored 4 points. In the final quarter, the Flames outscored their hosts 13-7. While the 1st half did not go according to plan, New Covenant had reason for optimism after winning the 2nd half by a 13-point margin.

Leading the Flames was Demler, who finished the game with 20 points, including connecting on four three-pointers. She scored 15 of those points in the 2nd half.

New Covenant (13-9) will visit High Point Baptist on Tuesday night in a game that will serve as a State qualifier.
